F-1 VISA

The F-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa for international students who wish to study full-time at accredited colleges, universities, or language schools in the United States. It is the most common visa for students pursuing academic degrees in the U.S.

F-1 visa holders can gain practical experience in their field of study through authorized work programs:

  • Curricular Practical Training (CPT): Allows students to work off-campus in internships or co-op programs directly related to their major while still enrolled in their studies.
  • Optional Practical Training (OPT): Provides the opportunity to work in the U.S. for up to 12 months during or after completing their degree. Students in STEM fields may qualify for a 24-month extension.

Application Process:

To obtain an F-1 visa, students must first be accepted into a U.S. school and receive a Form I-20. They then need to pay the SEVIS fee, complete the DS-160 visa application, and attend a visa interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate.
